We affirm the historical creeds of the Christian faith, and their witness that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Humanity is estranged from God, but God is reconciling the world to himself through Jesus - by his coming to earth, his death, resurrection, and giving the Holy Spirit to his church. By trust in God’s reconciling work it is possible for all to come into relationship with him.
Specifically around mental health, the effects of our estrangement with God include illness, suffering, disconnection from others and God, self-centredness and evil. Living in our estranged, broken world creates mental health challenges, and for some these cause great distress. Being in relationship with God does not simply overcome these.
Entering the ‘fullness of life’ promised by Jesus (John 10:10) is a process which requires ongoing support from others and healing from God, and is never complete in this life. We distinguish between 'cure', where people are completely recovered; and healing. Cure is rare, but healing is a common experience. It usually happens step by step, as God's Spirit works in us to heal pain and disconnection. Our brokenness co-exists with God's healing work in us. Call to Mind exists to help provide support to each other, and enable healing encounters with God.
As in the icon above, we believe a place at the table with God is open for all. Some of our project team are clergy in the Church in Wales. However, Call to Mind is an ecumencial project, and we embrace orthodox, catholics, liberals, evangelicals, charismatics and pentecostals alike. We aim to create a welcoming space where connection between people rather than differences are emphasised.
